Fight through monsters and deception to reveal the true enemy in VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars. Developed by Alim and published by Square Enix, VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars is the first installment in the Voice of Cards series. Inspired by classic tabletop RPGs, the game features a Game Master, voiced by Todd Haberkorn, who guides players throughout the story, providing narration and voices for each of the characters. Dive into the incredible world of VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars and experience a story that’s sure to keep you hooked at every moment.
Journey Across the Isle
VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars takes place on the Isle of Bliss—a fantasy world where monsters roam the countryside and most ailments can be cured by taking a simple curative. A dragon that was once thought long gone has been sighted. The Queen of the Isle summons all who will respond to quell the returning threat.
You’ll play as an unnamed mercenary who has responded to the Queen’s request with the promise of a massive reward. Accompanied by a friendly monster named Mar, you’ll set off across the Isle to take the beast’s head and claim the gold for yourself. Along the way, you’ll meet friends and foes alike, allying yourselves with individuals who have their own reasons for hunting down the dragon. You’ll face off against corrupt adventurers, hostile monsters and the dragon itself.
Get Ready to Rumble
The Game Master uses cards and avatars to help tell the story of VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars. Cards are laid out facedown across a digital table, except for the ones immediately surrounding your character’s avatar. When a player moves their character’s avatar to a card, adjacent cards reveal themselves. These cards will either uncover more of the land or something more interesting. Occasionally, players will uncover a chest containing everything from gold to new gear or find themselves face-to-face with monsters!
Battling in Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars requires strategy and the occasional bit of luck. Players can have up to three members in their main party and can customize the skills of these members as they’re unlocked. When using certain skills, players will roll a die to calculate whether or not they’ll receive extra damage or status effects. Additionally, certain skills require gems to perform them in battle. Two gems will automatically be generated at the start of each battle. Players can earn more gems by using specific skills or by simply taking an action. Unfortunately, passing on your turn will not generate a gem.
Characters have many skills at their disposal, but not all of them cause damage. Some heal allies, give status ailments to opponents, or grant advantages in battle. Use these attacks, buffs and debuffs strategically to claim victory.
Time to Gear Up
VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars features a special multiplayer mode. After visiting a game parlor in one of the towns, players unlock the ability to play a special minigame against nearby players.
The goal of the minigame is to make three sets of either two or three cards in your hand and earn the highest total score. While playing this minigame won’t progress the story, it offers players a nice change of pace.
Besides the game parlor, there are a few other buildings ever-present in any town you venture to. There’s always an item shop, armorer, apothecary, inn and carriage shop nearby. The item shop carries things, such as torches and dungeon escapes, to use in your adventures, and the armorer supplies players with equipment for their characters. The apothecary sells medicines and cures for different status ailments, while the inn lets the party rest and recover all HP. The carriage shop will send players to any town they’ve previously visited for 100 GP, the currency on the Isle of Bliss.
Travel’s End
VoC: The Isle Dragon Roars offers hours of gameplay and has four different endings for players to explore. The game has lovely graphics, mesmerizing chapter recaps and a captivating soundtrack. It’s available on both Google Play and the App Store for a one-time purchase of $12.99.
