SumiSumi Party Review
For players who enjoy playing matching puzzles and decorating for the perfect party, this game is perfect. From the makers of Imagineer comes the tap puzzle game SumiSumi Party. From the moment players open the app, they are greeted by cuddly-looking SumiSumi who teach them how to play the game before they head into the world of Summiko.
Summiko and the SumiSumi
Players are introduced into the world by the leader of the SumiSumi, Sumigamisama. He tells you about the world of Summiko and gives players their second tutorial in the game. Through this tutorial, players learn about the multiple types of SumiSumi, the goals of the game and what it takes to throw the perfect party.
There are several types of SumiSumi in the game, all of which are cute and cuddly. The leader of Summiko tells players about the different SumiSumi, then lets them pick a buddy.
Players are also told about the different powers the SumiSumi hold to help with puzzles. More of these cuddly creatures can be unlocked by earning points to play in the SumiSumi Draw, where a random SumiSumi is unlocked for them.
Players can choose a SumiSumi to be their buddy, which is how they get to use the powers. Each SumiSumi has a different power, such as demolishing a large circle or taking out a line in the puzzle. Powers can be useful, but depending on the puzzle’s layout, they may not be as useful as another power.
Party Puzzles
Throughout SumiSumi Party players unlock recipes and crafting supplies for the perfect party. They do this by playing puzzles and accomplishing missions to unlock resources and furniture. The puzzles are easy, but players have to pay attention to what the mission is, so they don’t let the clock run out of time.
Players are presented with a screen full of SumiSumi and obstacles, then race the clock to complete the mission. But there are a lot of obstacles to slow down the players, ranging from balloons to plants to garland holding the SumiSumi back. The main ways to defeat the obstacles are by matching the SumiSumi in groups next to the obstacle or eliminating other obstacles.
Something pleasantly surprising about SumiSumi Party was the different missions and puzzle setups created. New puzzles appeared constantly, and players never knew what obstacles they’d face. There are also a few different layouts of puzzles, such as the objective not even being on the main puzzle floor and players having to break water bottles to make it float to their destination.
Crafting Party Supplies
As players earn resources, they can craft party supplies. This includes furniture, plants, balloons, and garlands to decorate the party area. The more items in the party area, the bigger the party. However, crafting these party supplies requires many resources that build up slowly in the game.
The amount of resources is one of the most frustrating parts of SumiSumi Party. This is because there are several different resources to keep track of and they accrue slowly in the game.
Puzzles and missions give players resources, but they are in small amounts, and adding them up takes time. Due to this slow accumulation, it is difficult to initially craft more than one item at a time. It does get better as players continue playing, but not by a lot.
Throwing the Perfect Party
Players earn party points by beating the puzzles and holding parties once those are full. The first party is thrown after unlocking the first recipe, but they don’t have to wait to unlock more recipes before throwing the next party. During these parties, players are offered another puzzle: a tapping mania where they gather gifts full of resources.
While players plan for their own parties, they can also visit other parties as well. By going to the party screen, players can either tap a balloon invitation in the trees, or they can choose to go to a random party. Attending other parties gives players a little coin, but they can also look at other party setups and see how they can decorate.
