Sonic Dashes Back to Mobile
Sonic runs into another mobile adventure in the new Sonic Prime Dash, launched by Netflix and developed by Sega. Sonic Prime Dash is yet another endless runner game and the spiritual successor to the original Sonic Dash, released in 2013. The game features characters from the Sonic franchise running through various levels at high speeds. Players must swipe left and right to avoid obstacles and collect rings. You can also collect power-ups to help Sonic run faster or jump higher.
Run, Sonic! Run!
Controls are intuitive and responsive, making guiding Sonic through the game’s various challenges easy. Swiping left and right, jumping and performing the iconic spin attack all feel fluid and natural. The game’s user-friendly interface allows you to focus on the exhilarating gameplay without distractions.
The game’s extensive array of power-ups and boosters adds a layer of strategy and excitement to each run. Whether using Sonic’s homing attack to obliterate enemies or employing the magnetic shield to gather rings easily, every power-up feels satisfying and impactful. The ability to upgrade these power-ups using the rings you collect encourages replayability and strategic thinking as you strive to reach new heights and unlock additional characters to add even more variety to your runs.
Dashing Details
The graphics in Sonic Prime Dash are stunning, with detailed environments that showcase familiar locations from the Sonic franchise. From lush jungles to high-tech cities, every level feels unique and engaging. The transitions between different areas within a stage are seamless, keeping the action flowing and adding to the overall immersion. Accompanying the stunning visuals is a dynamic soundtrack that captures the high-energy spirit of the Sonic franchise, further enhancing the gameplay experience. Each run is enjoyable to look at, whether you’re zipping through loops, leaping over obstacles or collecting rings.
Additionally, the character models are well-crafted, featuring the signature animation style that fans have come to know and love. All of the characters, including fan favorites such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow, are beautifully rendered with meticulous attention to detail that brings their personalities to life.
Gotta Go…Fast?
Despite stunning graphics and smooth controls, Sonic Prime Dash falls short in a few key areas. First of all, the biggest issue is that Sonic feels slow. The main ingredient in a fun Sonic game is his speed. While the speed is fine for a typical endless-runner game, Sonic should feel explosive when reaching high speeds. The game’s lack of speed and adrenaline is disappointing. These elements would have made Sonic Prime Dash stand out from the sea of endless runner games.
Another area for improvement with Sonic Prime Dash is that it has no new or original ideas. As mentioned before, it is the predecessor to 2013’s Sonic Dash. The only thing that makes it different is a fresh coat of paint to match the Sonic Prime series on Netflix. There are also no in-app purchases, which is nice, but players must have a Netflix account to play. Other than that, it is a carbon copy.
