Causa Creations unveiled their new game, Songs of Travel, an interactive graphic novel that tells the stories of migrants and how they find their place in the world. The narrative follows the stories of five different people who ended up in Europe and how they balance their origins with their lives in their new homes. While telling the personal stories of migrants, it touches on overarching human themes, such as dreams and identity.
The main characters come from a variety of places and backgrounds, such as Light, a non-binary Syrian refuge; Hasan, who was born in Istanbul but has lived in Austria since he was one; and Vân, who’s had to navigate what it means to be Vietnamese-German.
A boutique studio headquartered in Vienna, Causa Creations seeks to make indie games that are more than just entertainment by serving to educate their audiences about the injustices of the world. The studio is behind the award-winning game Path Out, which was about escaping the Syrian Civil War. For Songs of Travel, the studio is again working with Syrian artist Jack Gutmann.
Music is also a vital part of the project. The soundtrack is written by Northern Irish composer Elaine Agnew. Festivals in Ireland, Sweden and Norway will showcase the score in 2024, with a fourth presentation in the Netherlands in 2025.
Songs of Travel will be available for download sometime in 2024.
