Scrylight: Hunt Ghosts in AR
Upcoming horror game Scrylight: Augmented Reality Horror Game aims to bring the terror of ghost hunting to your neighborhood. The game utilizes Niantic Lightship’s augmented reality tech to allow players to use their mobile phones to hunt the game’s ghosts in the real world. Scrylight’s Kickstarter campaign will launch on October 10.
The game promises an eerie storyline. Spiritualist Jeremiah Scry wrote an infamous guide on engaging with spirits using forbidden illumination rituals in 1842. However, Scry and his book vanished long ago. A hundred years later, some of Scry’s papers containing his ancient rituals are discovered. Players will use Scry’s techniques to contact entities.
Scrylight will feature multiple vision modes: standard, thermal and night vision. Up to four players can hunt ghosts together. Additionally, the developers promise the game’s custom ScryEngine is capable of generating infinite entities. Some entities will even spawn in specific geographic locations.
“With gameplay so unsettling, players are kept on edge, allowing them to be immersed into a world that starts to blur the boundaries of what’s real and what isn’t. Literally, jump in and turn whatever your environment may be into a fully immersive terrifying experience utilizing cutting-edge Augmented Reality technology with full 360 audio. There’s no getting away from the terror,” states the press release.
The developers also state that the game will include an expanded storyline about the guardians of the netherworld entitled The Court of Caligno. If this spooky title is up your alley, be on the lookout for the Kickstarter campaign. And check back soon. An interview with the game’s creator is soon to follow.
