Of Two Minds Comes To iPhone
Art company Burgeon & Flourish is launching its new game on the App Store soon. Of Two Minds is an FMV game that thrusts players into the role of a psychoanalyst who will analyze the psyche of the game’s various characters.
And interestingly enough, the game has been in development for 30 years, at least in a sense. FMV stands for full-motion video and the footage in the game was shot in 1989 by Michael Bergmann. With the help of game developer and composer Lucas Tahiruzzaman Syed, the footage has been adapted into Of Two Minds which promises a non-linear narrative. The title features over 3 hours of footage.
“What motivates a love affair? Do both lovers even have the same reasons? Why would a woman want to run a marathon halfway across the world, putting herself in danger in a totalitarian country? Why would a lost man ask a sheep for directions?”
1980s New York
Taking place in New York in the late 1980s, the game follows two psychoanalysts who are in the midst of an affair. Players will determine each character’s psychological motivations. Upon discovering a memory, the player must figure out how to connect the topics, feelings and ideas expressed to determine the theme. From the trailer, it appears players will use an in-game notebook to circle corresponding ideas to discover themes. Uncovering the theme allows you to unlock new videos and discover more of the story. In doing so, players will reveal why each character behaves the way they do and what drives them.
“If you think about what the characters do, and you learn and operate with the concepts that underpin psychoanalysis, you will get to understand these characters more deeply than you would ever expect — and what they do will make sense,” says Bergmann.
Of Two Minds will be exclusively available for iOS devices. For more information, check out the game’s official Instagram. Also, keep an eye out for Hardcore iOS’s review.
