An Eerie Story-Telling Game
As far as puzzle games are concerned, iPhone and iPad titles have been doing well lately. But adding in a storytelling element the way Miss Perfect Miss Ending does makes the puzzle-solving aspect far more interesting. This title, by Genuine Studio Ltd, is advertised with mild horror being a theme. However, there is also quite a bit of dark humor involved. The goal is to find objects in an image that will help complete the story. Fusing these objects can create different endings, but there does seem to be one true ending for each story.
Finding the objects is not a difficult task—fusing the correct items together is the real challenge. Using your imagination to create a unique thought can be difficult for some players, but the end result is usually worth the effort. Being able to complete one of the more confusing stories is a satisfying achievement, but some of the spooky tales you find along the way can be chilling, to say the least. One story alludes to cannibalism, so players with sensitive imaginations be warned.
Limiting Judgement Can Be Bad Judgement
There is one aspect of the title that leaves a bit of frustration while playing. “Judge” being a mechanic doesn’t necessarily make the game flawed, but the cost of doing so can be more tedious than the developers realize. Judgments require keys that show players if they guessed the correct combination of items in the story or not. These keys are limited in quantity but can be refilled by watching ads. This would not be such a negative thing for players if the “judge” option was not used as often as it is. Combining that with the sheer difficulty of some of the stories makes for quite a few ads needing to be watched.
Without the need for so many ads, the game itself can be an interesting experience. For puzzle-solvers and creative thinkers alike, there is much to enjoy. The investigative aspect of the title is interesting and needs little introduction for players, but the developers still made the tutorial simple and straightforward. Finding the endings for each story makes the game fun and time-consuming in a good way. Removing the ad assistance, however, may make the title a much more pleasant experience even with the horror elements.
