An Action-Packed Thrill Ride
Long ago, Marshanda’s ship was lost to the icy depths of the sea. Hundreds of years later, her body and ship are recovered. Unbelievably, Marshanda survives and finds herself in present-day England. Soon her path crosses with a plucky barmaid, Mia. Due to language barriers, the two must learn to communicate and trust each other. In this story-rich FMV title, each decision you make affects the outcome. So, choose wisely. The fate of Mia and the Dragon Princess is in your hands.
Mia and the Dragon Princess will draw you in with its stunning and gritty cinematography. The game, developed by Wales Interactive, stars Dita Tantang as Marshanda and Noa Nikita Bleeker as Mia. Also featuring stellar performances from Brian McCardie, Paul McGann and Jon Xue Zhang. This short FMV game features impressive action sequences and superb acting. And while Mia and the Princess Dragon is primarily an interactive action film, the game has its share of comedic moments as well.
Mia and the Princess Dragon: Make the Right Choice
Players take on the role of Mia, a barmaid who comes across Marshanda hiding from police in the alley behind the bar. Will you help her or guide the police right to her? That’s entirely up to you. The choices you make throughout the game determine who lives, who dies and ultimately, how the story unfolds.
Like other FMV games, the title plays out as a film that players can interact with at specific points. While I would have liked more chances to interact with the storyline, the game is still a compelling experience. Most full-motion video games are on the short side and Mia and the Dragon Princess is no different in this respect.
Eventually, one of the characters begins using a translation app to communicate with Marshanda. However, she is still from a different time, so communication issues still arise. I find the concept of the game’s two strong female protagonists struggling to communicate while also committing to protecting each other a rather intriguing concept.
Marshanda’s Past
As the game begins, we learn that, once an enslaved person, Marshanda became a pirate, sailing the seas with her friend Red Kat. While full-motion video represents the present, the game uses adorable cartoons to tell Marshanda and her pirate friend Ret Kat’s backstories. The cartoons are informative and provide the necessary exposition. As a bonus, the cartoons are absolutely beautiful.
After collecting a large treasure, Marshanda and Red Kat are forced to part ways, with Kat holding onto the treasure. However, Red Kat leaves Marshanda with a device she wears on her arm that will lead her back to her. Now that Marshanda is awake, she attempts to find her pirate friend.
Players can download and play the beginning of the game for free. After a while, however, you be prompted to purchase the game to continue. The game currently retails for 4.99, which may seem a bit high considering the game’s length. However, considering the title’s replayability and impressive cinematics, it’s a steal.
Mia and the Dragon Princess is an intensely immersive and highly entertaining experience. The lovely cartoons depicting the tale of Marshanda and Red Kat are a charming breath of fresh air. Actors Dita Tantang and Noa Nikita Bleeker give masterful performances that are sure to suck you into the narrative. Since making different choices changes the outcome of the game, it’s a title you’ll want to play again and again. With a rich storyline and compelling characters, Mia and the Dragon Princess is one treasure of a game.
