From Raw Fury, the creators of Kingdom Two Crowns, comes Kingdom Eighties, a standalone expansion to its hit Kingdom series. Use strategy to build your base in this thrilling pixelated adventure title. Monsters, called the Greed, are stirring in the woods near camp. As a camp counselor, it’s up to you to protect your camp and your town from the relentless monsters. What are these strange creatures and why do they seek your family heirloom, the crown of creation? All you know for sure is that if they steal your crown, it’s game over.
If you’ve played and loved Kingdom Two Crowns, you’ll enjoy this new standalone expansion, as the gameplay is very similar. As the leader, you ride on your bike, collecting coins and using them to build and expand your base. Like other titles in the Kingdom series, you won’t have enough coins to upgrade everything at once, so you’ll need to make strategic choices. Do you build up your base walls or invest in more archers? Choose carefully, as poorly thought-out decisions can lead to you losing your crown.
Synths and Neon Lights: The Glory of the Eighties
Kingdom Eighties will charm you with its nostalgic 80s aesthetic. Steering your character through camp on his bike with the threat of otherworldly monsters looming is faintly reminiscent of Stranger Things. A nice added touch is the background music, which features synths, a staple of 80’s music. The game’s comic-style cutscenes, which add depth to the story, feature the bright neon shades we all associate with the decade. From the colorful graphics and on-point soundtrack, it’s clear the developers put a lot of thought into the game’s sound and aesthetic.
At the start of the game, you’ll need to protect the summer camp where you work as a camp counselor. However, as you progress, you’ll explore and protect new locations such as the New Lands Mall, Main Street and a skateboard park.
As with other games in the series, the Greed only come out at night in Kingdom Eighties, so you’ll have all day to explore your surroundings, train archers and build defenses. Each night, however, the Greed will put your defenses to the test as they attempt to reach you and your crown. Ensure you are safely behind your base walls when night falls, or you’ll be easy prey.
Gameplay is simple: collect coins, use those coins to build and expand your base and train builders and fighters. However, despite the game’s simplicity, it offers a decent challenge. If you’re new to the Kingdoms series, don’t fret. Kingdom Eighties is as welcoming to new players as it is to veterans.
Uncover the Secrets of Kingdom Eighties
Kingdom Eighties offers plenty of secrets for players to discover. Explore your surroundings to unlock new mounts, weapons and tech upgrades. As you explore, you’ll also meet three helpful companions, The Champ, The Tinkerer, and The Wiz. Each companion has a unique ability to help you solve puzzles and complete each game level. Of course, you may need to do something for them before they’ll help you…
Kingdom Eighties is a seriously fun and challenging adventure game. The game will draw you in with its beautiful graphics and distinctly 80s soundtrack. The game’s day/night cycle adds urgency to your actions as you don’t want to be out exploring after dark. A simplistic yet challenging base builder, Kingdom Eighties keeps players engaged throughout the experience. So, get on your bike, put on your crown and get ready to defend your town.
