Humans and Dinosaurs Working Together
Jurassic World Primal Ops is a top-down action-adventure mobile game where your objective is to rescue dinosaurs from poachers, mercenaries, and scientists that experiment on the dinos. Choose from three different highly trained dinosaur handlers to team up with dinos ranging from the havoc-wreaking Triceratops, the scary smart Velociraptor to the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. It can be fun to discover and collect new dinosaurs, and fans of the Jurassic World series will like that the game includes Blue the Velociraptor. However, familiar faces from the series such as Owen Grady or Claire Dearing are missing. Independent developer Behaviour Interactive removed these characters and replaced them with random characters. This game contains bugs and glitches including lag with gameplay and occasional game crashes.
Jurassic World Primal Ops starts by introducing Operations Director Dr. Omar Wilson and Director of Field Ops Janice Williams during a training prologue. Your first mission will be to rescue a captured dinosaur. Get ready to make use of your tranquilizer gun to take out the poachers. Upon rescuing the dinosaur, it will form an immediate bond with you granting you the ability to summon the dino to unleash its terror on enemy foes.
The game’s story mode contains three acts with nine chapters in each act. The mission objectives are repetitive, which can be irritating for lack of variation. At the end of a chapter, you must subdue an injured dinosaur. The saved dinosaur will join your team.
Unlock and Explore a World of Dinosaurs
The classes of dinosaur include common, rare, epic, and legendary. You will need Dino DNA to unlock more dinosaurs as well as ranking up your dinos to make them stronger. Another way to boost your dinosaur strength is to level them up by using Dinosaur XP and Coins. You can view each dinosaur’s stats to see what makes each dino unique. Don’t forget to level up your handler too, which will require Handler XP and Coins.
When you unlock a new dinosaur, you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Though unlocking dinosaurs can be fun, it can be a bit of a grind to getting new ones. Microtransactions speed up the progress in your game but because the game provides little challenge, these microtransactions are not necessary.
Visit the Sanctuary to view the different dinosaur families. By ranking up your dinosaurs, you can earn dinosaur family bonuses. Increasing the Sanctuary level will gain you rewards.
In the shop, you will notice a variety of crates that you can buy including a Common Plus Dinosaur Crate, a Rare Plus Dinosaur Crate, an Epic Plus Dinosaur Crate, and a Handler Crate. Each of these crates display the possible rewards you can get from them. You can open an Ads Crate, which rewards a free crate for watching an ad video. Limited time crates guarantee you a specific dinosaur family DNA. For example, a T. Rex Family DNA Crate will ensure you get T. Rex Family DNA upon opening the crate. The Handler Crate gives you Handler XP to level up your handler and Blueprints to upgrade your handler’s equipment. Opening crates can be fun because it rewards different prizes with each open.
Preparing for Missions and Competing in Events
Before entering into a mission, you will see that you are able to choose your dinosaur team of up to three dinos. To play a mission, you will need to spend Energy. There’s a limit to how much Energy you can use before your handler needs a rest but you won’t have to wait too long before getting back into playing more missions. After you complete a mission, you collect prizes and you can watch an ad to multiply the Coins you earn by three times.
You can participate in different events such as the T. Rex Boss Event where you compete against other players to be the fastest at subduing a wild T. Rex. Place yourself on a leaderboard and the higher your position, the better your rewards will be. Other events such as the Daily Supplies Event will earn you Coins while you fend off enemy waves. The events are helpful to have in the game if you are finding the story mode to be repetitive. The downside to these events is they need Energy to play, so it’s limiting in how much you can do.
There are daily rewards if you check in and play Jurassic World Primal Ops frequently. You may also complete quests and achievements for prizes. Complete five quests in the same day to get Dino DNA.
Final Comments
An upside to playing Jurassic World Primal Ops is it’s a thrill to see a massive T. Rex terrorizing enemies or a Triceratops wreaking havoc across your phone screen. The in-game dialogue can be entertaining at times. An example of this is when Janice Williams asks Dr. Wilson what he would like in his stocking next holiday season and he responds, “Peace on Earth and good will toward dinosaurs.” The idea of teaming up with dinosaurs makes for some fun entertainment.
This game does come with a few downsides though. Your phone battery will drain quickly from playing due to the many graphical elements. Sometimes the player will have trouble moving and have lag issues. Twice I noticed that upon starting the game, I could not get past the loading screen. I’ve also read reports from other players that the game crashes. After playing through a mission only to find that I couldn’t rescue the dinosaur at the end due to a glitch, I lost interest in playing the game. In my opinion, a game requires thorough testing before releasing to the public.
This simple action game is not hardcore by any means. You will beat the short missions in a matter of minutes. You don’t need to put much effort into the game since you can just let your dinosaur companions do all the work while you just run around and evade. The missions tend to get repetitive and there are only three groups of bad guys, which are Fang Force, Kozlov, and EvoZenith. Not enough variety nor challenge to keep a hardcore gamer interested.
