It is time to start your Hogwarts career. In this newest strategy game from Warner Brothers, Hagrid has hand-delivered the letter to you, and now you’re headed straight for Diagon Alley, then Hogwarts. But are you ready for the decisions you’ll have to make, the duels you will have to fight? Only time will tell, so get ready for an adventure.
Get Ready
Out of nowhere, one day, Hagrid bursts into your room and tells you that you’re a witch, inviting you to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But while this is the first step in your journey, you still have a long way to go. After you get your letter, you must stop in Diagon Alley to get your school supplies.
When you get to Diagon Alley, you get to design your character how you like and pick an outfit for them. But then you head to Madame Malkins to pick out some new robes and get outfitted for school. Once you have your robes, you head over for the most important part of the day: finding a wand.
Next, you head into Ollivander’s, and you try out a couple of wands before finally finding the perfect one for you. This is just in time to meet your first friend and learn how to duel. It leads perfectly into a tutorial on dueling and how the card system works.
So Many Cards
While you are playing, you learn how to duel using the cards, but there are lots of cards to learn. You start out with just a couple before adding to your collection by winning duels. You can get keys through dueling, which allows you to unlock several cards at a time. Sometimes you get repeats, but then you can level your previous cards up.
But the biggest help throughout the cards was that I could look through them whenever I wanted to, except during duels. I liked to reshuffle my deck every so often and put new cards into play, take out some old ones and decide what helped the most. The cards are all kept in one large book that also holds all of the information about the cards. This includes the range they have, the damage they cause and how much magic they use.
While dueling, you have a meter on the bottom that tells you how much magic is available to use. The meter stays at ten, but it does regenerate fairly quickly. The cards all take a certain amount of magic, and the higher the card, the more magic is needed. Once you have personalized your deck of cards, you will learn which ones you prefer and which work best for your fighting style. I personally preferred my summoning cards, such as the troll or spiders, but maybe the element cards, such as ventus or inferno, will work better for you.
Plenty of Dueling
There are so many things to do in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, with you being able to follow the storyline or go duel at the club. But even if you only follow the storyline, you will still duel every few minutes. Sometimes, it helps the storyline or introduces you to a new part of the castle, such as the dueling club. Other times, it is just something small, such as accidentally disturbing some gnomes, and now they are angry at you.
Since there is a storyline for you to follow, you are more than welcome to lessen the number of duels you do and focus on that instead. Despite the game heavily focusing on dueling, you can do plenty of other things. There are the storyline quests, exploring the castle or interacting with other players. It’s extremely easy to spend too much time playing this game because there are so many things to do. But if you love its dueling aspect, stay for as many rounds as you like in the dueling club to strengthen and show off your skills.
If you are ready to explore your magical side and see the wonder of dueling, this is the game for you. You’ll enjoy learning in class, exploring the castle and dueling your friends and other players. There are endless things to accomplish and tasks to complete. You’ll never run out of fun things to do while playing.
