A Jumping RPG
Choose your hero and explore a mystical world. Darkrise is an action RPG developed by small indie developers under Viktor Chokov. Like many other RPGs, Darkrise has multiple character classes to choose from and mixes in 2D platformer mechanics. While it looks simple on the surface, some rich mechanics can keep players busy throughout their entire journey.
Before players start Darkrise, they must choose from four different heroes, each of a different class. Like traditional RPGs, the classes include the Mage, Warrior, Archer, and Rouge. Each class has its own skills and game mechanics. They also have their own strengths and weaknesses that players will have to consider when choosing. Each has a basic attack that can be used without any consequences. Other skills will cost a certain amount of MP, and more powerful ones will have a cooldown after use. Each hero also has a massive skill tree, allowing players to focus on their preferred aspects. This provides for immense customization of each class.
Choosing Classes
The Mage and Archer are the two long-range characters from this selection. The characters are great at keeping their distance but struggle in close combat, especially when a wave of enemies rushes you all simultaneously. They also take a lot of damage when hit. The Mage has a fire attack that will shoot out a ball of fire that will strike the enemy in front of you. They also have a reflected ability that will protect you from enemy attacks and deal damage. The Archer can attack faster than the Mage; however, they do not do as much damage. There is the bare basic archery shot that attacks the enemy in front of you. They also have a special ability to shoot an arrow straight through a line of enemies.
The Knight and Rouge are the two melee-focused classes. Since they focus on being close to the enemies, they both have better defense than the Mage and Archer. However, they are slower in return. The Knight has a basic attack of a powerful sword swing but is slow. The second ability that the Knight has is a dash attack. The Rouge has a similar slash attack with two daggers that’s faster but not as strong. They also can throw knives for a decent ranged attack.
Adventure Awaits
There is much to discover while advancing through the beautifully detailed pixel world of Darkrise. The controls are simple but work just fine for Darkrise. You can move left and right, and there is a jump button. They are responsive, and the animations are fluid, which makes gameplay fun. The levels are set in a 2D akin to Castlevania with light platforming mechanics.
As players traverse the world, they will encounter multiple enemies, from bandits to bats to skeletons. When players defeat the enemies, there is a chance that they will drop pieces of gear. This gear can be equipped to increase defense and add special abilities. Gear can also be found worldwide in the world by searching campsites and destroying boxes. While exploring, players will find themselves in various areas. There are towns where players can buy new equipment and start side quests from NPCs. The world also features dense forests, dark, treacherous caves, and creepy cemeteries. The world is filled with charm, and players will always enjoy the environments they find themselves in.
Rising Above
Incredibly, it is remarkable that Darkrise is a free-to-play mobile game with no ads. It offers deep and rich RPG mechanics in a 2D landscape that players can get lost in for hours. The pixel art style is some of the best as well. Each environment is full of detail and immerses the player in the world. The combat feels unique with each hero and is loads of fun. With four classes, players can choose a play style that suits them best and customize them even further with the vast skill tree available. Darkrise rises above the rest as one of the best free games on mobile currently.
