From casting spells to pickpocketing to melee combat, RPGs have something for just about everyone. And the App Store is full to the brim with role-playing titles. Here at Hardcore iOS, we’ve put together a list of the best iPhone RPGs of 2024, so if you’re itching for a good role-playing game to play on your iPhone, check out our list below

15. Chrono Trigger

A classic JRPG, Chrono Trigger, was magnificently ported to iOS in 2011. Travel through time, visiting the Middle Ages, prehistoric times and more as young Crono. Along with his companions, Crono must attempt to defeat the evil Lavos, who is trying to end the world.

The game features a compelling active-battle system. Players must wait for the character’s speed bars to fill before attacking. Unlike traditional turn-based combat, the battle does not pause and enemies will continue to move s plan your attacks well. Offering multiple endings, dungeons to delve into and great combat Chrono Trigger is one excellent mobile RPG.

14. KOTOR

Master the Force in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). In this classic Star Wars title, travel to various planets, such as Kahyyyk and Tatooine and save or doom the Republic. Build your lightsaber and unlock a variety of force abilities as you travel across the galaxy to ultimately defeat Darth Malak. But the dark side is insidious. Do you have the willpower to stay on the light side? Or will you succumb to the dark? Each decision will earn you light or dark side points, leading to your ultimate fate. A masterful RPG with immersive real-time combat and lovely graphics, KOTOR is easily one of the best iPhone RPGs as of 2024.

13. Atom RPG

Fans of the Fallout franchise can get their mobile post-apocalyptic fix with Atent Games’ Atom RPG. The game occurs in an alternate universe where the Soviet Union dropped nuclear bombs in the 80s. A conspiracy that threatens all remaining life on earth is brewing and it’s up to you to stop it. As an apocalypse survivor exploring the Soviet Wastes, you’ll explore the metro, bunkers and more. Whatever your play style, Atom RPG offers skills to suit your needs. Master stealth skills like lock picking and pickpocketing, or harness your Pistols and SMG skill and go in guns blazing. Additionally, various quests have multiple endings allowing you to play how you want. A stunning game with epic turn-based combat, Atom RPG is the best post-apocalyptic RPG on iPhone.

12. Vampire’s Fall Origins

For those who crave a vampiric experience, Vampire’s Fall: Origins is the perfect fix. Play as a soldier who has been turned into a vampire. Hone your new vampiric abilities in immersive turn-based battles against wild creatures, humans and vampires alike. Players can also wield melee weapons in combat. The game features an expansive map to explore and many engaging side quests. Search for and defeat the evil witchmaster in this epic iPhone RPG.

11. Pascal’s Wager

Looking for a souls-esque mobile RPG with rich lore and a compelling macabre world? Then Pascal’s Wager, with its brutal combat, unforgiving horrifying landscapes and gorgeous graphics, is the game for you. Play as Courier Terrance as he traverses a sunless world, battling sanity-leeching creatures along the way. With intense enemies to defeat, interesting companions to unlock and upgrade and a strange yet immersive plot, Pascal’s Wager is a rare treasure of a mobile RPG.

10. Titan Quest: Legendary Edition

If you’re looking for a role-playing game with an emphasis on world mythology, then look no further than Titan Quest: Legendary Edition. Ported to mobile by HandyGames, Titan Quest: Legendary Edition is a legendary RPG in which players must defeat the evil Titans who have managed to escape imprisonment. This title offers gameplay reminiscent of the Diablo franchise and an epic plot featuring mythical creatures. Explore the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Babylon, Greece and China. You’ll take on famous mythical beasts such as the Gorgons and minotaurs. Players can choose two of eight masteries which combine to create the player’s class. Additionally, Titan Quest: Legendary Edition comes with tons of DLC.

9. Another Eden

In Another Eden, the Beast King has stolen Aldo’s sister Feinne. Aldo rushes to save her before the evil King can use her dormant powers to erase humanity. Things go awry, however, and Aldo finds himself 800 years in the future. If this sounds reminiscent of Chrono Trigger, that’s probably because members of the Chrono Trigger development team Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda, helped develop this excellent role-playing title as well. Another Eden features beautiful graphics and tons of side quests. Battle enemies in strategic turn-based combat and partake in various mini-games in this side-scroller RPG.

8. Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance

One of the greatest RPGs of the PlayStation 2 era, Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance is a beautiful and nostalgic title. Players can choose to play as a dwarven fighter, human archer, or elven sorceress. A top-down RPG, Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance was brought to iOS by Interplay Entertainment. Like many titles of old, the game features linear gameplay with a focus on the game’s deep storyline. While the game itself is simple compared to the RPGs of today, it offers engaging real-time combat, a simple yet effective level-up system and a powerful storyline making it one of the best iPhone RPGs to play in 2024.

7. Vendir: Plague of Lies

Another title from Early Morning Studios, Vendir: Plague of Lies improves upon the mechanics of the developer’s early title Vampires Fall Origins. Featuring beautiful low-poly 3D graphics, Vendir: Plague of Lies offers engaging and strategic turn-based combat and a compelling narrative. An ancient prophecy reveals that you and your sister will save the Kingdom of Vendir from the evil forces that threaten it. Explore a vast world and engage in entertaining and, at times, humorous side quests as you fight to end the tyrannical reign of King Elrik. Vendir: Plague of Lies features an extensive branching skill tree that gives players more freedom than the standard warrior, mage and ranger roles. All this and more make this title one of the best RPGs on iPhone to date.

6. Eternium

In indie developer Making Fun Inc’s enticing RPG Eternium, players must hunt down their nemesis Ragadam. Chase Ragadm across various worlds and battle automatons, skeletons and everything in between. Eternium features a variety of engaging environments, such as jungles, mountains, and the moon. As you progress, you’ll rescue companions who will join you in your quest. Combine your attacks with those of your companion to unleash devastating combos. Eternium offers fast-paced real-time combat, epic locations and a Diablo-esque vibe all of which earn it a spot on our list.

5. Grimvalor

A Dark Souls-inspired platformer RPGG, Grimvalor is a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The game features intuitive controls and epic hack & slash action, all set within an ominous world. The King of Vallaris is missing and it’s up to you to find him. However, you quickly become lost in darkness. Your only chance of survival is to fight with all you have to escape a dark and foreboding landscape. Take down hordes of baddies and explore dilapidated castles in one of the best RPGs iPhone has to offer.

4. Langrisser

From Zilong Games, Langrisser is an enchanting strategic RPG. You are Prince Ledin. The Dalsis Empire has invaded your kingdom and it is up to you to save it. The game features epic turn-based combat as well as real-time PvP battles. Combat in Langrisser is tactical and outcomes are affected by battle terrain. Each attack unit can gain bonuses or penalties for standing on special terrain tiles. Additionally, each unit type has its own strengths and weaknesses, making strategic placement of your battle units essential. Langrisser also features adorable anime-style graphics that mesh perfectly with the game’s exciting plot.

3. Genshin Impact

You’ve been separated from your sibling. A God has stolen your powers. Now, you awake from a long slumber and immediately seek out the seven elemental Gods of Teyvat in Genshin Impact. An open-world RPG from developer Cognosphere, Genshin Impact boasts absolutely gorgeous graphics. You’ll journey across a vibrant landscape where you’ll climb mountains and swim across rivers. Master elemental attacks and use them wisely against your foes. The seven elements react differently to one another and can be combined for powerful attacks.

2. Overhaul/Bioware

One can’t make a list of the best iPhone RPGs without mentioning the fantastic mobile ports of Bioware’s classic Dungeons & Dragons RPGs. Brought to mobile by Overhaul Games, these beauties are all absolute masterpieces.

From Baldurs Gate to Planescape Torment to Neverwinter Nights, each iconic title offers hours upon hours of stellar gameplay. Each title provides tons of fun side quests and immersive plot lines. Investigate the iron crisis in Baldur’s Gate or become the nameless one and journey to uncover the memories of your many past lives in Planescape Torment. Like a fine wine, these Overhaul Games/Bioware games have aged well and continue to be some of the best iPhone RPGs as of 2024.

1. Evoland 1 & 2

Experience a thrilling journey through the history of video game mechanics and graphics in Evoland and its successor, Evoland 2. Begin in an 8-bit monotone world and work your way up to a 3D environment. The graphics improve as you progress, and you can even revisit places and view them in higher resolution later in the game.

Both games offer engaging storylines and compelling gameplay. From stealth mechanics to platformer action, these titles offer a variety of classic types of gameplay. An even bigger feat, Playdigious manages to offer varying game mechanics throughout the game without it ever feeling clunky or out of place. Fans of old-school and newer RPGs will have a blast traveling through time, solving puzzles, conquering foes and watching the history of video games play out before their eyes.
