Northern Forge Studios is excited to announce its participation in the Green Game Jam 2024, unveiling “Terra’s Legacy” in their game Orna: The GPS RPG. This is a unique in-game event that blends real-world environmental awareness with immersive location-based gameplay. On September 9th, the studio will open submissions for real world “Gloomsite” locations to help clean up the planet. Orna players will get to take part in the 10-day event, harnessing the potential of gaming communities for environmental education.
Learning from environmental catastrophes endured by the citizens of planet Terra, players will explore the environmental themes of waste and restoration in their own real-world environments and highlight local areas of pollution or grievous garbage. In essence, the event allows players to submit the GPS locations of these polluted sites. Then the studio’s developer team will approve and transform these physical locations into active Gloomsites in the game. Players who travel to these Gloomsites will confront harmful waste-type enemies called the Murk, as found on Planet Terra. Collectively combating Murk monsters will help players defeat the pollution at the site. Event participants can also raise their stakes by planting trees and growing Gaia apples to restore these Murk-infested areas. Other players can then harvest the apples and use them to customize and upgrade their character.
