A New Classic Platformer

Jump and slash your way through a plethora of intriguing and fun-filled levels in Apple Knight Dungeons. Developed by Limitless, this Epic Action Platformer hits all of the marks for being a great platformer on mobile. The classic pixel art style and the fast, smooth gameplay will keep fans of the genre playing for hours.

Jump and Slash

Apple Knight Dungeons is a modern take on the classic platformer. The pixel art style is reminiscent of platformers of old but has detail and smoothness that makes it pop. One issue for platformers on mobile is that there are no physical buttons, so it can be challenging for the touchscreen to handle fast inputs. It can also be hard for the player to get a feel for poorly implemented virtual D-pad buttons. However, with Apple Knight Dungeons, the button sizes and layout are in optimized positions, so this is of little issue. The player can also customize the size of the controls for even better personal optimization.

The controls are quick and responsive and overall offer a fun experience. Jumping in Apple Knight Dungeons is smooth and has a nice floatiness to it. The added double jump adds to this and leads to more precise maneuvering. One significant difference that Apple Knight Dungeons has over traditional platformers is the ability to have infinite double jumps when against a wall. This ability allows for a sense of verticality in the levels.

Apple Knight Dungeons has a simple yet fun combat system along with the platforming. With a tap of a button, the player slashes their sword. Just like the platforming controls, the attacks are smooth and fast. When an enemy attacks, there will be a window of opportunity for a counterattack. Just attack right before the enemy does, and the counter is complete. Hitting an enemy while in the air will allow the player to stay in the air and add an additional jump to the platforming mechanics. Players can also stun enemies by throwing apples they have collected throughout the levels which adds a unique charm to the game.

Collect and Choose

As with any good platformer, Apple Knight Dungeons has plenty of treasures to collect and rudimentary gacha mechanics. Along the way, players can find multiple treasure chests in each level. There are also bigger hidden chests that can be found in secret areas that hold more treasure. Chests contain coins, hearts or gems. The coins and gems can be used to unlock and upgrade new characters or weapons.

Each character will control a bit differently. For instance, Blue has higher stats in speed, making him seamlessly fly across each level. However, Red specializes in melee damage, being able to take down foes in fewer hits. This allows players to choose what they find more important and specialize in that aspect of the game. Having thirteen different characters such as a skeleton or a magician allows for a variety of characters to play and also adds to Apple Knight Dungeons‘ replayability.

 Fun for Everyone

Knight Dungeons attacks

Apple Knight Dungeons takes everything that made great 2D platformers of the past and adds a flair of modernness to it. Limitless is still releasing new worlds and levels to Apple Knight Dungeons which keeps the game fresh and offers those who have beaten the game to come back. The updated pixel art style has a smoothness to its animations that cannot be found in older platformers. The levels are also short enough for short bursts of play without stopping mid-level. The quick and fun movements of the gameplay are addicting and will undoubtedly keep players returning for more.

Knight Dungeons takes the classic mold of 2D platformers and adds just the right amount of modernity to it. The art style is reminiscent of platformers of yore but adds a nice smoothness to its animation and gameplay, making it hard to put down.
