This War of Mine: See The Exhibit Now
Games can be so much more than entertainment and 11-bit Studios aims to show the world just that. This War of Mine, the studio’s popular adventure game, has earned a place at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The game tasks players with keeping civilians in a battle-worn country alive by scavenging, trading and crafting necessary items. The game is part of the Never Alone: Video Games and Other Interactive Design exhibit which runs through July 16.
“There is often a kind of a conversation about games as fun, games as a diversion, but I think that there’s an increasing range of games that ask more of the players. When I played This War of Mine, it made me sad, it made me afraid, it made me very tense, and in the end, it left me with a very changed understanding of what it is to be playing in a war space,” says Paul Galloway, Collection specialist from the Department of Architecture and Design at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
According to Galloway, the exhibit aims to help museum patrons understand the inner workings of video games. The Never Alone exhibit isn’t the title’s first time as part of a museum exhibit. In September, the game became part of the War Games exhibit at the Imperial War Museum in London. For the latest news on This War of Mine, follow 11-bit Studios on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
