Virus Hunt
With the past couple of years we’ve had, who wouldn’t want to spend their time dispatching harmful viruses trying to kill you? CRISPR Crunch allows you to do just that by having you defend bacterial cells from hoards of attacking viruses. Players must match the DNA sequence of the attacking virus on a hexagonal grid of colored tiles. If you do so successfully, you defeat the virus. If not, the virus will begin to reproduce uncontrollably and you lose. The puzzle game contains 30 levels and 3 unique worlds for players to conquer, all of which are ornate with pleasant and intricate aesthetics. If players run into trouble, they can utilize bonuses to heal themselves or swap unwanted tiles from the grid.
Curious
CRISPR Crunch is the latest game from French indie studio Play Curious. They specialize in developing games surrounding technology and science. CEO Jesse Himmelstein previously worked at the Center for Interdisciplinary in Paris where he created games whose purpose were to educate people on complex subjects. He founded Play Curious to deliver games that surround complicated subject matters to the general public. Within CRISPR are short unlockable videos in which a biological expert gives insight into the actual CRISPR technology. They detail how it has evolved and how it is used practically.
“CRISPR is one of those subjects that comes up often in the news, but most people don’t know how it works or what it means. There are some great podcasts and YouTube videos out there that explain it, but we believe that games are the ideal medium for learning. We hope that people have a blast playing this game, and learn how CRISPR works in the process.” said Himmelstein on the inspiration for the game.
